Whether you are beginner or tournament veteran, junior or senior, male or female, serious competitor or fun-loving fan, Montgomery County Horseshoe Club welcomes you. We meet informally most Thursday evenings to “pitch some shoes” – no entry fees, no trophies – just fun and bragging rights. Then on Saturdays a dozen or so of us may travel to, say, Kilgore or San Antonio or Bryan or Buffalo to participate in a Texas Horseshoe Pitchers Association sanctioned tournament. Our club hosts one or two such tournaments each year. Among our members are Tournament and State Class Champions.
We are members of the state THPA and national NHPA governing bodies. The game is very similar to "picnic horseshoes" but there are a few differences: We score 3 points for a ringer with one point for "close". Men pitch from 40 feet while women, juniors and seniors pitch from 30 feet. The winner of a match has the higher score after 40 shoes. Competition is among individuals or teams that are placed in class by skill level.
We have a class for you. Join us for some fun!
